Delora Bertsch was born in Pasadena, California. She was born deaf. Her family moved to Milan, Italy, and then moved back to United States. She studied at UC Santa Barbara in Creative Arts and Anthropology, and then later transferred to Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California to get her Arts/Visual Communication certification. Then she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education and Teaching at CSU of Long Beach in 1999. She has her studio at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, California, and now lives in locally on the coastal overlooking Santa Catalina Island.
